How Plants Grow Animation

Prior to this project, I had never worked with animation software, so I went into this assignment unsure what to expect. I was tasked in creating a brief animation video that contained graphics, effects, text, and narration. I decided to focus my animation on how plants grow and began by listing the steps of the process. Once I had an idea of what I would mention in my voiceover, I used Canva Pro to create a background image of dirt, grass, and the sky. I then selected images to illustrate how one would plant a seed, cover it with soil, water it, let it absorb sunlight and water over time to grow into a sprout, and eventually into a plant. I first had to remove the white background from all images and make them transparent; I did this in Gimp. In Adobe Animate, I started by creating all my layers and assigning images that aligned with each stage of planting or growth. From there, I worked to animate my images using classic tween and motion tween. It took some time to learn the software, including messing with the timeline and animation lengths. Once complete, I recorded a short voiceover and combined it with the animation using Microsoft Clipchamp. The finished product below is different from how I envisioned my animation, but I have come to learn that Adobe Animate is a professional software notorious for its steep learning curve. I hope, a year from now, to look back on this project and reflect on how my skills have improved.
